If doing the laundry feels overwhelming in your house, this article is for you. We’ll show you how to set up an efficient laundry system that’ll mean more time for you and less time cleaning and sorting clothes.
1. Pick a laundry day
Doing the laundry on specific days actually works as it gives the task routine. Depending on the size of your family you can either do the laundry a couple of times a week or choose specific days for different loads. For example, Monday could be whites, Tuesday sheets and towels, Thursday day-to-day wear – get the idea? And we recommend Sunday as a ‘no laundry day’.
2. Laundry baskets galore!
Of course we want you to buy our beautiful laundry baskets, but we also want you to have a manageable laundry system that works. To do this we suggest two laundry baskets per room, one for whites and one for colours. This will make doing the laundry so much easier.
A couple of laundry bins in the laundry room or near the washing machine are also a good idea. Throw dirty clothes like football kits or the wet dog towel straight in these ready for the next wash.
3. Keep well-stocked
Make sure you always have enough detergent, fabric conditioner and stain remover. Running out is an absolute disaster when it comes to creating a laundry system that works.
4. Wash / dry / iron or fold / put away
Follow this system and you can't go wrong. Put clothes away as soon as they're dry. Sort them into piles by person as they come off the line or out of the dryer. Then each person puts away their own clothes – simple! Fold as much as you can to save on ironing and keep the ironing pile in a basket ready for the task.
5. Wash at night
There are two reasons for this. The first is that if you wash at night the laundry is ready to hang out in the morning and can dry during the day. The second is to save money. Many homes use cheaper electricity at night and most modern washing machines have a timer delay programme.
So there you have it – a system that'll help you keep on top of the laundry.
