5 tips for easy spring cleaning

Winter is over, the days are getting warmer, the nights lighter and spring has sprung! What better time than to give your home a really deep clean to prepare for summer? We’ll show you 5 tips to make spring cleaning simple.

First of all, you´ll need the right spring cleaning tools. Make sure you’ve got supplies of cloths, rubber gloves, brushes, a mop and bucket, a plastic bowl and the vacuum cleaner. Either use homemade cleaning products (which tend to be gentler) or buy them from the supermarket – just make sure you’ve got enough.

1. Declutter

Before you start making your home sparkle and shine it´s a good idea to get rid of all those things you don´t need. Take this opportunity to throw away or donate old clothes, papers, toys and items you no longer use. Doing this means you´ll have less to clean!

2. Look up (and down!)

It’s so easy to only clean surfaces at eye-level and forget what we can´t see. Run a brush around ceilings and walls to clear those cobwebs. Do the same along the skirting boards where dirt and dust collects.

While you’re attacking those inaccessible areas don´t forget under beds and sofas, behind the fridge, and inside cupboards and wardrobes. Finally, remember to wipe along the tops of doors, curtain poles and pictures – you’ll be amazed at the dust these gather.

3. The kitchen

There’s nothing like a spotless and hygienic kitchen to inspire the cooking of fabulous meals! Clean the grease and grime off appliances, including their doors, insides, and plugs. A cloth dipped in warm, soapy water is fine for this job as harsh cleaning products can damage surfaces.

4. Fabrics

The soft, gentle breezes of spring are perfect for airing bedding, cushions and curtains. If something isn’t washable hang it outside in the sun for a few hours to freshen things up.
Vacuum the sofa and mattresses to kill the dust mites and get rid of dirt, crumbs and other nasties.

5. Windows

Spruce up your windows with a thorough clean. First wash them with warm, soapy water then dry them with newspaper or kitchen roll to avoid smears.
